From Russia, the reality and fiction of
“a world that has awakened from a dream.”

Kristina Rozhkova’s Photo Exhibition “unbewitched”

“A ‘red’ that stains Rozhkova’s photographs. Lips, nipples, tongues, wounds, apples, lipstick, cheeks. Their ‘life,’ the ‘sexuality’ expressed here, is offered to me as a blessing force. They do not smile, but they gaze far into the distance.”

— Rieko Shiga (Photographer)
(From the recommendation in the photobook)

A globally acclaimed Russian female photographer presents work that resonates with her generation worldwide through a fusion of raw reality and dark fantasy. Based in Russia—where excessive censorship of artistic expression persists—Kristina Rozhkova actively publishes in international magazines and releases photo books abroad.
This publication coincides with her first large-scale exhibition in Japan. While rooted in distinctly Russian subject matter, her expression is both universal and deeply generational. In an “unbewitched” era—where the spell is broken and the dream has ended—amid ongoing conflict and the aftermath of rapid economic growth, her work captures a harsh present reality alongside a persistent longing for fantasy beyond disillusionment. With a profound sense of intimacy toward girls and boys, lovers, and sexual minorities, Rozhkova’s work powerfully draws in contemporary audiences around the world.Step into Rozhkova’s dangerous and intimate world.
